I was out in Mexican waters, Friday the 2nd of June 2006. I and two passengers were fishing the Coronado Islands, which are about 20 miles from Pt. Loma in San Diego. About 1:00P.M. we decided to head back to San Diego. The seas were calm and the wind was small. We were going about 25-30 miles an hour, when we hit an object in the water that launched us about 6-8 feet in the air. The boat plowed back in to the water, which was like hitting a brick wall. It threw us up against the center console of my 210CL causing some minor injuries like cut eyebrows and cracked ribs but the boat continued to float and the engine kept running.
After checking with my passengers I hit the throttle and we proceeded back the 11 miles to San Diego at top speed. The boat handled flawlessly and took us back to Shelter Island with no problems. I don't know what I hit, but I do know if I had been in a fiberglass boat we would have been taking on water and sinking.
There are no marks on the boat other than a few scratches and we'll all heal from our injuries. One of my passengers said he'll never go out in the open ocean in anything but a Triumph.
I lost a $500 fishing rod (bought the day before) and a pair of prescription eye glasses but we're alive and safe.
Thank you so much for the quality and safety of you're boats.
